POSITION: Assistant Professor of Teacher Education

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY is the second largest, private, nonprofit institution of higher education in California, founded in 1971. The Sanford College of Education is one of four schools and two colleges within the University. The Department of Teacher Education, one of three Departments within the Sanford College of Education, offers courses at the graduate level and several credential programs approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Sanford College of Education is seeking individuals who aspire to be excellent teachers and researchers, possess collaborative skills, demonstrate strong technology knowledge, and have experience in the field of teacher education with an emphasis in elementary or secondary teacher education.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES of individuals selected to fill each of these positions will be expected to perform the following responsibilities in their respective area of expertise: Teach graduate level courses in Teacher Education online, onsite, and/or in a hybrid delivery format; advise and mentor candidates of diverse cultures and backgrounds; coordinate field experiences and supervision of interns and student teachers. Participate in curriculum and instructional development; attend regularly scheduled college, department, regional, and statewide meetings and symposia; assist in developing cohort groups within school communities; establish and maintain contacts with and provide support to schools within the local community; conduct research, scholarship and service activities within the University, College and Department; establish and maintain relationships with department faculty, administrators, and staff in academic centers throughout California.
An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university in the area of teacher education or a related field.
Experience in teaching within the PK-12 educational system.
Experience teaching at the college or university level.
Ability to work across departments to support students in teacher education and special education.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff and faculty from diverse backgrounds and across programs.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional team.
Excellence in teaching. An exemplary record of teaching at the graduate level is preferred.
Evidence of effective teaching in higher education settings, including working with adult and non-traditional learners.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
An established or emerging line of applied research (including presentations at state and national conferences).
Experience in working with secondary education preparation programs.
A record of collaboration with school districts and community partners.
Experience designing, developing, and delivering online courses.
Experience in Program Assessment
