We are the premier national association for retirement plan professionals in the private pension industry.We are looking for a Senior Director of Conferences to join our team. The Senior Director of Conferences will implement the latest innovative and interactive adult educational delivery methods and tools to:
Oversee on-site production of major conferences including coordinating with A/V production, developing scripts and creating an environment for the mutual exchange of ideas between speakers and attendees.
Plan and support marketing and promotion campaigns and promotional strategies for conferences with the Marketing department. Develop value propositions for attendee acquisition and partner participation.
Direct volunteer committees on specific projects, especially in the areas of adult educational delivery, interactive programming and effective networking opportunities.
Leverage up-to-date knowledge of latest adult education delivery, hospitality industry and associated trends to continuously improve conference and event experiences for all stakeholders.
Utilize strong marketing skills to strengthen connection between the intended audience needs/expectations and event programming requirements with strong organizational branding.
Read trade publications, attend industry seminars and consult with other meeting professionals to ensure adult educational deliveries and technology capabilities are innovative and competitive.
Exhibit solid strategic project management experience and organizational skills including the ability to set and drive requirements across multiple functional areas.
Bring creative direction to the mission and vision of the Conferences team and help achieve departmental and staff goals/aspirations.
Plan, evaluate, organize and direct the activities of the Conference department operation
Set individual and department goals that correlate with ASPPA’s strategic plan and those of its sister organizations. Serve as a mentor to the Conferences department and ensure that team members are successfully completing industry training courses.
Work productively with all ASPPA and sister organization colleagues who support the Conferences team including those for whom the Senior Director of Conferences does not have direct authority.
Apply effective budgetary and fiscal planning techniques to meet the Conference’s business plan and operating budgets for ASPPA and sister organization events.
Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills and confidence to interact with all levels of management, diplomacy and professionalism.
Qualified Candidates Will Have:
Demonstrated knowledge of content development aligned with adult learning principles that create engaging and interactive learning experiences for conference attendees.
Familiarity with working with volunteer committees and developing/producing large conferences in terms of site selection, contracting, budgeting, programming, marketing, logistics and customer relations. Background in programming, logistics and staff supervision for for-profit and/or not-for profit organizations is necessary with 8 to10 years’ experience.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience),in Marketing, Business Management, hospitability/tourism, or a related field. Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation or equivalent is required.
