The American Political Science Association (APSA) is seeking a motivated, capable, and efficient full time staff accountant. This position will support the Accounting Manager and Director of Finance and Administration.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
A/P, A/R, P/R, JE
General ledger reconciliations
Fixed asset and inventory maintenance
Maintain supporting documentation and systems
Support in the preparation of annual audits and filing of annual federal and state taxes (as needed)
Support work with Finance and other Board Committees as appropriate
Other projects as needed.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic team player who is highly motivated, detail oriented and accurate, and able to work independently. This position requires excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills, superior time management, the ability to problem solve; a strong customer service focus and attitude; and the ability to work within deadline. The accountant should have a strong understanding of the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and its relevance to non-profits, as well as knowledge of the Statutory accounting principles.
A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a Bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting, is required. Degree(s) must be from an accredited college or university
Minimum of two years of experience, post BA degree in accounting is required.
Experience with fund accounting software.
Strong analytical and accounting skills.
Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and statutory accounting. Traverse and Noah preferred.
Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high level of difficulty.
The individual will be expected to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his / her work product.
Database management experience
Ability to travel (≤5% of year)
