EDUCAUSE (http://www.educause.edu), a national nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology, invites applications for the position of Accountant.
Responsible for support of the day to day accounting functions of the Finance and Administration department including account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, budgeting, and independent financial audits.
Manages, plans, guides, and administers the overall provision of high volume accounts payable for the Association. Coordinates EFT and check processing, invoice processing, vendor payment, invoice monitoring and payment approvals. Supports and responds to staff inquiries and requests, assists with vendor inquiries and maintains integrity of service agreements and independent contractor relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Finance and Accounting Operations
Supports monthly internal financial statement preparation by reconciling accounts, posting any necessary adjustments, maintaining supporting documentation, and researching variances of budget-to-actual and two-year comparison
Assists in the accounting for grants by tracking expenses, assisting with projections, monitoring sub-awards and preparation of accurate financial reports
Assists with the annual independent financial audit and Form 990 preparation by providing requested reports, account reconciliations, and other supporting documentation
Participates in the annual budget process through data entry, analysis and follow-up inquiries
Facilitates the development of system controls to ensure data integrity
Accounts Payable Administration
Perform all accounts payable functions including invoice entry, EFT and check disbursements, vendor maintenance and positive pay.
Process weekly disbursements using current accounting software by analyzing each payment request for proper back-up documentation, approval authorization, and general ledger account coding. Information feeds into monthly in-house financial statements and annual audited financial statements.
Co-administer the Association’s purchasing card program with the CFO and Controller.
Research and resolve issues related to invoices, vendor payments, disbursements, accounts payable processes.
Maintain electronic filing system of invoices and payment support.
Evaluates invoices for 1099 filing requirements, ensures payments are made only to those with the required W-9 form on file; issues 1099’s and W-9 annually.
Service and Support
Works closely with the Controller to ensure effective integration of accounting functions with other functions of the Finance department
Assists the department in carrying out various accounting activities; serves the overall association as the A/P liaison for the department
Represents EDUCAUSE in a professional manner at all times; engages with co-workers in a civil, caring, respectful way; and promotes the growth and professional development of others to advance the mission and vision of EDUCAUSE
EDUCAUSE is a fast-paced organization with an ambitious agenda and a staff that is committed to the mission. This position may experience high work demands under tight timelines. The position requires working on a computer for extended periods of time and attending scheduled meetings. Travel may be required to support conferences/events annually.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field of study; equivalent work experience considered
Minimum of five years accounting experience
Experience with accounts payable functions strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
An understanding and practice of confidentiality concerning financial matters
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics accounting software
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Consistently sound judgment
Detail oriented with excellent communication skills
Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily supervision.
Familiarity with managing grant funding is a plus
