Founded in 2003, Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that runs youth development programs in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Our mission is to empower Chicago's youth to become community leaders through academic success, healthy living, and social-emotional learning. We amplify the inherent power of sports and teamwork to unify diverse stakeholders and strengthen communities. Currently, Urban Initiatives serves 17,000 students throughout the city of Chicago.
The Development Coordinator will report to the Development Director and will work closely with six additional members of the Urban Initiatives team. This position is responsible for a variety of projects and tasks to support fundraising goals in a fast-paced and collaborative setting. Primary areas of focus include grant management and writing, developing funder-specific proposals and reports, event coordination and execution, and overseeing a crowdsourcing campaign that raises over $80,000.
Oversee grants management and grant writing including both relationship management with existing funders and prospect research and cultivation of new partnerships
Oversee the development and distribution of bi-annual funder reports for major donors
Assist with gift entry in DonorPerfect database and donor acknowledgment letters
Assist with fundraising, planning, tracking, and logistics for meetings, campaigns, and solicitations
Coordinate and implement a series of special events and projects including: Team Urban Initiatives (Marathon team), Halloween Party, Bus Campaign Kickoff Party, the Bus Campaign, and an overnight retreat for our Associate Board
Provide support for correspondence; draft letters and e-blasts to various stakeholders as needed
Communicate with external stakeholders as needed
Assist with photography in support of communications and stewardship materials
