The Director of Development & Strategy (DDS) is a team-oriented, highly motivated person who can thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment. The DDS will serve as the primary strategist and architect of Caris fundraising activities, including, but not limited to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardships of major gifts. S/He will have knowledge of current fundraising trends within a faith-based context and will continually ensure that Caris is effectively responding to its philanthropic partners. Additionally, the DDS will be responsible for introducing new potential partners to the Ministry through effective engagement activities. The DDS, in concert with the Advancement Team, is responsible for a fundraising goal that will be determined at the beginning of each Fiscal Year (at a minimum, the DDS will be responsible for raising funds to support the operational budget).
The DDS must exemplify a committed and consistent walk of faith and dependence on Jesus and have a personal calling to ministry and to the specific mission and vision of Caris. The DDS must also be in full alignment with our approach to service and our Statement of Faith.

Strategy & Planning-20%
Play a leadership role in strategic planning meetings as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Translate the vision and strategic plan into achievable steps.
Create and oversee the implementation of a robust resource development strategy for the ministry, including major gift cultivation and solicitation, mailed appeals, events, and grant proposal submission.
Work with the Advancement team on an engagement strategy for our Church partners, donors and volunteers all towards the purpose of raising additional resources for the organization.
Direct the prospect management meetings with the Advancement team, designed to review and analyze donor moves, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and overall fundraising strategies.
Lead foundation research and cultivation, as well as assist in the writing and submission of grant proposals.
Working with our Marketing Manager, oversee the strategy for the communications, marketing, and social media plans for the organization.
Actively identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donor prospects capable of supporting Caris at the level of $5,000 and above.
Cultivate donors beneath the $5,000 level, helping them to increase their gifts to the Ministry.
Develop meaningful and impactful relationships with assigned ministry partners, keeping them abreast of program developments and organizational impact, while understanding and connecting their unique passion with a corresponding part of the ministry.
Identify, cultivate and steward relationships with the appropriate staff at funding institutions.
Manage and monitor the Executive Director’s donor engagement activities, including her in key donor and partner meetings. Serving, in tandem with the Executive Director, as the chief fundraiser for the Ministry.
Develop and implement an annual work plan for the Advancement Team. Track and monitor Advancement Team goals.
Serve as a resource to and advocate for the Advancement Team.
Serve as an encourager, steward, and developer of the Advancement Team.
Serve as an articulate, passionate, and visible spokesperson for Caris amount stakeholders, ministry partners and the larger Chicago/Cook County community.
Meet with current and potential ministry partners on a consistent basis to advocate on behalf of the organization.
Attend Board Meetings as needed to discuss fundraising strategy and objectives with the Board.
