The Manager of Publications is responsible for overseeing the development and publication of peer reviewed society documents including, but not limited to, clinical guidelines and technology reports. The Manager of Publications serves as staff liaison to two committees whose primary function is to develop and maintain ASGE society guidance documents. This individual also serves as a resource to other groups within the organization that occasionally publish documents on behalf of ASGE. In addition to society documents, this individual provides administrative support to our clinical journals, as well as society newsletters.
Essential Job Functions
Oversee all aspects of the development and publication of society documents, including the planning and coordination of documents, the peer-review process, board approval activities, copyediting, as well as submission to and communication with the publisher.
Ensure the quality of ASGE documents by overseeing the peer-review process and version control, assisting with related figures and illustrations, as well as copyediting documents prior to journal submission.
Ensure the timely publication of society documents through organized tracking of documents through all stages and through ongoing and persistent communication with authors and the publishing staff.
Act as staff liaison to multiple physician committees related to document development. Assist with assignment of papers, coordination of edits, literature research, as well as the scheduling of conference calls and in-person meetings.
Coordinate with external organizations and groups in instances of co-publication or endorsement of documents, where processes, politics and timelines can be complex.
Investigate and implement technological tools for committee work, specifically document sharing tools. Educate committee members on how to use tools.
Serve as the organizational resource and primary contact for issues related to Society document development and publication.
Review and edit journal proofs when requested by journal staff.
On a daily basis, check submissions to the journal to ensure all components are included. Assign journal submissions to associate editors.
Send correspondence such as reminders, rejection letters and requests for revisions to appropriate audiences (authors, reviewers and editors).
Perform other projects as assigned by Senior Managing Editor, including gathering and entering COIs, pulling monthly image lists, entering publication information, etc.
Develop and post journal articles and society documents to social media, including the GIE blog.
Education/Experience/Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related area required. A minimum of three years of relevant experience required. Experience in the development, including copyediting, of clinical, peer-reviewed content is preferred. Knowledge of AMA Manual of Style is highly desirable.
