A unique opportunity to work with an international cultural diplomacy organization based in Saint Louis, MO. Under general direction, performs a wide variety of duties associated with the documentation of social media and traditional media from domestic and international programs as well as post-program engagement with alumni of the American Music Abroad Program.
Proficiency in audio/video recording and editing, and sound system engineering for live music and dance events is required. This position requires the availability for extended international travel as well as some event and program management skills involving touring with music ensembles.
The Association of American Voices has been creating cross-cultural engagement with audiences in over 145 nations worldwide since 1993. Founded with a focus on nations in Central and Eastern Europe, American Voices has expanded its mission towards supporting youth in nations emerging from conflict or isolation such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan, and Sudan. Recent programs included music students from Mosul, Iraq just days after being liberated from ISIS, and singers from Aleppo, Syria whose city has been decimated by war.
Serving as a cultural bridge, American Voices introduces American performing arts to the world, showcasing a wide variety of genres ranging from jazz to classical orchestral to hip hop and Broadway. Among its flagship programs are the Youth Excellence on Stage (YES) Academies in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, which provide much-needed performing arts and entrepreneurship training that empower participants to use their talents to create positive change in their fragile nations. The U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy (USCCD) selected American Voices as a "Best Practice Organization" in 2010 for its cultural diplomacy work.
In October 2011, American Voices was selected by the U.S. Department of State to administer American Music Abroad—a program that has evolved out of an illustrious line of cultural diplomacy programming conducted by the U.S. government, including the renowned Jazz Ambassadors and The Rhythm Roadprograms.
While the majority of funding comes from the U.S. Department of State, American Voices also receives funds through a diversity of sources ranging from online campaigns and annual drives to individual and family donations and foundations. Funding also comes from American and international corporate sponsorship.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
The overall goal of the Technology and Youth/Alumni Engagement Manager is to ensure the documentation and integrity of American Voices’ State Department programming. Additional duties include post-program engagement with program alumni via online technologies and social media and assistance with the production and documentation of domestic programs. The job will require some international travel as well as regular domestic travel to Washington D.C. and other locations.
Perform duties related to the implementation, documentation and management of the American Music Abroad program.
Work closely with the Program Manager and the Director of Communications to plan program documentation, social media, newsletters and other activities supporting the organization.
Works closely with the American Voices Staff and Board to ensure coordination of audio and visual materials with their respective fundraising efforts.
Skills in the adobe creative suite, graphic design, web design (wordpress), and development are a plus.
Ability to travel both domestically and international travel may be included.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to listen carefully to and understand others, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
Previous experience in audio and video recording and editing technology.
Previous experience with sound system engineering for live events.
Strong skills with a variety of social media and online communications platforms: Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook, SoundCloud, Snapchat, Instagram, Constant Contact, etc.
Ability to travel internationally (procure passport, manage online bookings, visa processes, etc).
Ability to recognize opportunities, identify critical activities and prioritize them to attain goals.
A results-oriented individual, who demonstrates the ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization.
Openness to new ideas and their implementation.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience required.
1-3 years experience in technology or nonprofit sectors preferred.
Experience with international travel a plus.
