The Citizens Utility Board (CUB), a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization, has an immediate opening for a communications intern to contribute his/her talents to all facets of its Communications Department. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the world for a good cause: Fighting electric/gas rate hikes, preventing rip-offs and advocating for a clean energy future.
The candidate who excels in the internship can look forward to a permanent, FT position as Communications Assistant
Research, write, lay out new blog stories, fact sheets and CUB’s newsletter (The CUB Voice);
Maintain existing fact sheets and other CUB materials in both pdf and WordPress format;
Upload content to CUB website in both pdf and WordPress format;
Assist in the planning of media campaign logistics;
Write and pitch event news releases;
Distribute media advisories and news releases for media campaigns and make follow-up calls; and
Maintain up-to-date media spreadsheet.
Skills required: The ideal candidate would have a proven commitment to public interest work and be proficient in WordPress. Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Marketo and Luminate Online, a plus. Candidates must also have or be pursuing a communications-related degree, have excellent written and verbal skills, and be very detail-oriented.
