The internship is ideal for applicants interested in exploring the field of international education or nonprofit management; growing in coordination and project management abilities; gaining experience in professional communication and collaboration; learning and applying concepts in strategic planning; as well as expanding administrative and research skills via the use of new technology, web, and data systems.
NAFSA: Association of International Educators is the world's largest nonprofit association dedicated to international education and exchange. NAFSA's 10,000 members are located at more than 3,500 institutions worldwide, in over 150 countries.
The VLDRA team provides orientation and training for the success and development of volunteer leaders; supports and partners with the 11 NAFSA Regions; implements diversity, inclusion and membership initiatives; and executes a transparent process for nominations, elections, appointments of NAFSA leaders and national awards.
Intern duties include:
Collaborating with staff on departmental programs, volunteer leadership development, membership, and recruitment
Managing and analyzing data for NAFSA regional, leadership, and diversity initiatives and meetings
Assisting in preparing regional and leadership conference/meeting logistics, developing and editing materials, and completing online research
The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented self-starter, be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite applications, and have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to use and learn technology systems is essential. Preferred skills include writing and copyediting experience, instructional design experience, training skills, or administrative and nonprofit management experience. Candidates with an interest in and/or knowledge of training, curriculum development, higher education, international education, education research, nonprofit organizations, association management, and U.S. campus internationalization will be able to apply this work to their academic careers.
Spring Term: The internship is a part-time (up to 28 hours per week) position and is available January to May 2018. Pay is $14 per hour. NAFSA will work with the student’s institution if the intern is seeking academic credit.

Attending staff meetings and conference calls with volunteer member leaders

Provide logistical support for the Washington Leadership Meeting (WLM) taking place in Washington, DC (January 18-21)
Prepare VLDRA staff and regional leaders for Regional Spring Team Meetings (February-April)
Assist in the preparation of materials, meetings, presentations, events, and shipments related to the 2018 Annual Conference and Expo taking place in Philadelphia, PA (May 27-June 1)
Assist with projects related to volunteer leader teams and committees, such as the Leadership Development Committee (LDC), Regional Affairs Committee (RAC), Membership Engagement Committee (MEC), regional leader cohorts and coaches
