Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will help define the process and implement the infrastructure/systems needed to support substantial growth over the next five to 10 years. He will continue to assist with building and management of effective and streamlined administrative/financial systems, including financial, accounting, legal, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and physical infrastructure.
The Chief Controller will assist in strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives, as well as planning for Western Sierra Medical Clinic’s expansion to multiple new sites both locally and in other cities. In keeping with Western Sierra Medical Clinic Nonprofit’s values, the Controller will also interact with program recipients as a mentor.
Assist with the preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for Western Sierra Medical Clinic’s Board of Directors.
Assist with budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new sites.
Assist with all audit activities.
Administrative Leadership And Management
Collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer on the organization’s financial, budgeting, and administrative processes—including HR, payroll, and benefits functions—with an eye to continuously developing and improving systems.
Teach/facilitate classroom activity as needed and serve as an advisor for program recipients (required of all 345 non-profit staff).
Upholds Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures, infection control standards, applicable state, federal and local laws.
Assist where needed in quality improvement activities;
Participates as assigned in interdepartmental quality improvement team efforts; and
Contributes to overall Community Health Center efforts in quality improvement towards higher-quality, more cost-effective health care for patients and improved quality of work-life for staff members.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
The Controller will have at least five years of professional experience, including assisting with managing the finance and administration of a $1 million plus organization (preference given to nonprofit FQHC experience). He/she will have experience creating and driving the analytic framework for planning and managing organizational change in a highly entrepreneurial organization.
The Controller will have the following experience and attributes:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or Finance.
Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development.
Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.
Proven effectiveness leading professionals in finance and accounting.
Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving environment.
Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail-oriented.
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to Western Sierra Medical Clinic’s mission.
Experience working for an FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center).
Additional Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with an electronic practice management system.
Computer literate (i.e. logging on to computer, usage of keyboard and mouse, familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).
