The Shaw Center Associate Director supports a sustainable, dynamic experiential learning academic initiative – including community based service learning, research, and academic projects/programs, and reports directly to the associate vice president for engagement and director of the Shaw Center.
The Associate Director serves as a community engagement practitioner expert by: facilitating and nurturing sustainable campus-community partnerships/collaborations with local nonprofits and public; consulting with faculty/academic programs and projects, focusing on developing experiential learning curricula that reflects research-based knowledge informed by experience; directing center staff in managing the community placement process for service learning/community based research/engagement projects; managing program evaluation and data-gathering processes; and providing current research-based pedagogy and leaning resources to faculty.
This position supports Syracuse University's mission and identified priorities of increased student recruitment, retention, professional skill development, application of research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This work is accomplished through sustainable, strategic partnerships, supervision and leadership, resource management, and consultation with Syracuse University students, faculty, staff, and myriad community partners.
The position requires maintaining current knowledge of the emerging engagement field with a focus on pedagogy, student learning, and developing assessment modalities. Connection to regional, national and global colleagues is essential.
