The Senior Director for Development will provide senior leadership in the Development Office of Institutional Advancement at Our Lady of the Lake University to manage staff in Advancement Services and Lake Fund (annual fund), Corporate Relations, and Foundation Relations; maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors; and collaborate strategically with the President, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA), and the Director of Advancement Services. Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Senior Director also will work closely with the Director of Alumni and Family Relations and the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cultivate, solicit and steward gifts of $10,000 or more, managing a portfolio of 65 to 90 prospects, including new and existing donors and board members.
Develop and direct fundraising campaigns designed to attract the greatest gift support possible for OLLU. This plan will include major and capital gifts; endowment and scholarship gifts; corporate and foundation support; special events; and Lake Fund (annual fund) solicitation.
Along with the VPIA, engage the President and the Institutional Advancement Committee of the Board in the fundraising plans and activities of the Development Office.
Develop and oversee a moves management plan increasing alumni, friend, family, faculty/staff, foundation, and corporate support and involvement in OLLU.
Supervise and collaborate with the Director of Advancement Services to: identify and research the University’s major gift and planned giving prospects and an accompanying action plan for their solicitation; maximize the use of fundraising software; and execute the Stewardship Plan.
Direct the work of the Corporate Relations Officer in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of business/corporate support of the university.
Direct the work of the Foundation Relations Officer in identifying, researching, and seeking grant opportunities with charitable foundations and assisting and maintaining regular contact with foundations, trust officers, and major donors support of the university.
Serve as a key participant in the University's day-to-day fundraising effort to assure that short- and long-term goals are achieved by:
Providing supervision and mentorship to staff in Advancement Services and Annual Fund, Corporate Relations, and Foundation Relations;
Managing OLLU’s Estate and Planned Gift Program; and
Developing and measuring fundraising goals that contribute to the overall objectives of Institutional Advancement (IA) and the University;
Carry a portfolio of prospects and donors in order to:
Manage them through the Discovery, Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship process;
Make solicitation “asks” at the major gift level; and
Accompany University leadership and volunteers in order to cultivate and solicit major gifts.
Serve as a strategic partner with the President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and the entire Institutional Advancement team in order to:
Create an advancement plan for cultivating and soliciting local, regional and national support;
Develop an overall campaign plan for OLLU;
Set, measure, assess, and reach the goals set by the Institutional Advancement team; and
Facilitate the growth of a culture of philanthropy at OLLU.
At least seven years of experience managing staff;
At least seven years demonstrated successful professional experience in fundraising including direct experience cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts at the seven-figure and above level;
Demonstrated experience and results in capital campaigns;
Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality both within the University community and outside;
Fundraising experience in educational and non-profit settings, higher education preferred;
Exceptional communication skills including written and oral communication;
Experience with and a commitment to maximizing usage of Raiser’s Edge software (Blackbaud), including RE NXT;
Experience with Microsoft Office and graphics software required to produce professional proposals and reports;
Working knowledge of nonprofit and philanthropic communities and processes;
Ability to research and understand any given academic discipline; and
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
