Job purpose The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) will serve as a Leadership Team member and active participant in strategic decision-making at Church of God Ministries, Inc. (“CGM”).
The CAO will:
Direct and oversee advancement operations including, but not limited to, an integrated fundraising campaign, database management, communications, resource development, grant development, and organizational coordination.
Work with the Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Financial and Operations Officer and other executives to develop and coordinate organizational fundraising priorities.
Oversee the advancement of internal and external reporting functions associated with individual giving, with a focus on major gift development, and grant development.
Assist with the development and management of an integrated fundraising plan to increase financial support for the organization’s capital, endowment, and program goals.
Help plan marketing and communications strategies to ensure success.
Engage in departmental and organizational strategic planning as well as budgeting.
Moderate travel may be required.
Duties and responsibilities
Work with the Executive team to develop, diversify and execute CGM’s fundraising strategy for individual donors and foundations.
Responsible for overseeing research, cultivation, positioning, and proposal writing for foundations and major donors.
Hold meetings and prepare Executive team members for meetings with high net worth individuals and foundations.
Prepare and submit fund development pipeline reports.
Use donor databases and marketing tools.
Provide leadership and oversee all major giving efforts for CGM.
Develop and implement a robust major gift program, as well as carry a portfolio of key donors and and prospects.
Identify and cultivate partnerships that focus on long-term and planned major gifting.
Cultivate existing partner donations and secure new partnership opportunities.
Plan and collaborate with CGM departments and teams which may lend insight toward new major donor support or increasing gifting of existing donors and to provide the tools required to promote and secure long-term relations with ministry and donor partners.
Develop new Advancement/donor relationships; increase and retain existing Ministry relationships.
Establish meetings, deliver project presentations, and provide ongoing communications to ensure the positive vision of CGM.
Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic relationships with external Ministry/business partners to expand advancement and donor relationships.
Mentor and coach the Advancement Team in the use of fundraising "best practices" and in their individual leadership growth and development.
Work in conjunction with the outside vendors and other internal resources in developing standards and procedures for monthly ministry letters, newsletters and other appeals to ensure support and positive relations with constituents and donors.
Establish and implement short and long range Ministry development goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness; adjusts to ensure a continuing increase in Advancement/donor relationships.
Ensure that appropriate fiscal, human resources and administrative systems are in place to enable timely and resource efficient responses to the needs of constituents/donors along with outside vendors.
Perform periodic cost and productivity analysis ensuring sound fiscal operation of the department through development of budgets and accounting systems.
Serve as Ministry representative for major donors, providing personalized communication and appreciation by promoting and developing a loyal and fruitful relationship.
Develop, plan and implement on-site and off-site donor events for the purpose of increasing donor confidence and encouraging continual support.
Define and communicate individual and team performance goals.
Monitor implementation utilizing the performance review process as a mechanism to drive goal alignment throughout the division.
Review performance against targeted goals and establish initiatives to enable their successful attainment.
Create and present budgets utilizing a balanced approached to market/demand Communicate budgets to team leaders.
Monitor, track, and report variances monthly to the CSO and CFOO.
10+ years of professional fundraising experience with demonstrated success in major gifts fundraising, foundation and corporate relations.
A commitment to CGM’s mission.
Master’s degree in nonprofit management, business, or related field preferred, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
A current Certified Fund Raising Executive credential preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff across departments.
