Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is a nationwide grassroots network that mobilizes school professionals, parents and communities in support of healthy school foods, nutrition education, physical activity and physical education. AFHK is dedicated to the goal of ensuring every kid is healthy, active and ready to learn and providing the comprehensive support and resources needed to build healthy schools in every community.
AFHK seeks a dynamic, self-motivated individual for the role of Content and Online Engagement Manager to be responsible for writing, proofing and editing marketing content to engage our community and new prospects through social media platforms, email communications, websites and various marketing materials. This position supports the cross-functional work of the Marketing & Communications Team and reports to the Director of Communications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Write clear, concise, persuasive marketing copy that meets both promotional and brand objectives, assuring consistent quality and tone.
Work with the Director of Communications to develop creative content strategy across digital platforms to build brand awareness, promote specific events and programs, engage and build our online community and generate inbound traffic.
Work with marketing and communications team (and other departments) to brainstorm concepts, write copy, edit content and copy and proofread communications materials, including social media, web content, emails, ads, key messages, marketing collateral and more. Proofreading includes checking facts, spelling, grammar, and ensuring content is correct and up-to-date.
Interview staff, volunteers, donors, board members and others for feature stories for newsletters, social media, website and other communications.
Online and Social Media Management
Manage AFHK’s digital platforms including websites and social media channels.
Create and post engaging, relevant and consistent on-brand content as the voice of AFHK to build community, and join conversations.
Maintain the content calendar for websites, social media, blog and email communications.
Develop and execute social media strategies to support key marketing and fundraising campaigns and events.
Monitor and report regularly on how the brand is performing on social channels and any key trends and market developments that will inform future marketing plans and make recommendations about new opportunities.
General Marketing Support
Provide other administrative support as an integral member of the Marketing & Communications Team.
Other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in marketing, advertising, communications, journalism, digital media or similar field.
Experience: 7-10 years of experience in content/social media marketing, inbound marketing, copywriting, e.g. at an agency or nonprofit organization.
Skills & Capabilities:
Strong grammar, editing and proofreading capabilities. Excellent short-form and long-form writing skills.
Ability to think strategically and conceptualize creatively.
Advanced proficiency using social media, with a proven experience using Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and Facebook Ad Manager, Tweetdeck, etc.
Experience managing websites; experience creating/redesigning a website is a plus.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, online search engines and developing and administering web content.
Ability to create and edit basic images in Adobe Creative Suite or other software and also work directly with our designer.
Experience with Salesforce, Drupal, Soapbox, Pardot, or other CMS and CRMs.
Dynamic journalistic/writing skills – ability to produce “publish ready” copy/documents.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent time-management and follow-through skills.
Ability to monitor, compile and analyze data to guide decision making.
Highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with different personalities in a tactful, mature and professional manner.
Strong project management skills with ability to manage workflow processes and schedules and manage multiple projects at once.

Self-starter approach toward work with an eagerness to consistently meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility.
Experience with or understanding of non-profits, school systems, donor engagement and issues related to school health, childhood obesity, physical activity and a passion for working in the field of health communications is a plus.
(Combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position may be considered in lieu of education/experience at the organization’s discretion. Training will be provided for various technology platforms.)
5-10% travel may be required to offsite events.
Additional Salary Information: Action for Healthy Kids offers a highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health care (employee paid at 100% by organization), dental, and holidays/vacation days.
