The American Bar Foundation (ABF) seeks an Assistant Director to support the initiatives of a leading academic interdisciplinary research institute.
Liaison Services – Serve as primary liaison to the American Bar Association, and its many commissions, centers, and other entities (ABA). Supervise and manage liaison research and programming projects with the ABA. Communicate regularly with ABF staff and volunteer leadership on potential and existing liaison projects. When necessary represent the American Bar Foundation at ABA events and other related gatherings.
Academic & Legal Affairs – Collaborate with ABF director, senior managers, and research faculty in overseeing administration, coordination, and development of research policies, programs, and facilities. Prepare contracts letters of agreement and oversee compliance with grants, tax, and other reporting requirements. Review and sign third-party contracts between the ABF and its vendors and strategic partners.
Overall, this position is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for faculty and staff, as well as a collaborative working environment with all ABF team members. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the American Bar Foundation.
This position is part-time with an initial expectation of a maximum of 20 hours/week. Over time, this position may evolve into a full-time position.
Bachelor’s degree and law degree are required; advanced degree or training in social science is preferred, as are:
• A minimum of five years of experience in a management or supervisory position, preferably in an academic, association, or nonprofit organization.
• Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work both independently and with a team.
