The CFO oversees The Business Group’s accounting, finance, legal, IT, and general office administration functions. The CFO is responsible for providing the financial overview and establishing the strategic financial direction for the organization. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports directly to the President/CEO.
Strategy, Planning and Management
Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts. Provide insight and recommendations to both short-term and long-term growth plan of organization.
Identify, acquire and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information.
Communicate, engage and interact with Board of Directors, CEO, and Executive Leadership Team.
Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion.
Serve as a key member of executive leadership team.
Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational models.
Interact with and bring department into line with Board of Directors’ plans, initiatives and recommendations.
Implement policies, procedures and processes as deemed appropriate by senior leadership team.
Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting
Present financial reports to the finance committee of the governing board and Board of Directors.
Review and analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations.
Identify, develop and execute analysis of business initiatives, product launches and/or new service offerings.
Oversee the development of the annual operating budget.
Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations
Supervise the accounting department to ensure proper accounting standards are followed per GAAP.
Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting.
Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly financial statements.
Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state and federal 990.
Oversee the month-end close process, constantly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies.
Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits.
Supervise Accounts Receivable management and provide guidance relating to the collection process
Oversee management of cash and investments.
Utilize forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to provide financial insight into the organization’s plans and operating budgets.
Financial Relations and Policies
Engage finance committee and/or board of directors to develop short term and long term plans, projections and budgets.
Represent company to banks, financial partners, institutions, investors, public auditors and officials.
Remain current on audit best practices as well as state, federal and local laws regarding company operations.
Finance and Accounting Team Management
Mentor and develop a team of 3, managing work allocation, systems training, performance evaluations, and the building of an effective and efficient team dynamic.
Reviews and signs all legally binding contracts for the organization including sponsorship agreements and hotel and restaurant contracts.
Manages external counsel as needed.
Oversees the management of the outside IT vendor and is responsible for the annual capital budget and IT infrastructure of the organization.
Responsible for managing the administration of the office.
MBA or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
Certified Public Accountant a plus
15+ years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
10 years AR, AP, GL experience at a minimum.
10 years budgeting, strategic planning and proposal generation experience.
10 years in a leadership role with employee management oversight responsibilities.
Detailed knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience working in the non-profit a plus but not required.
Individual should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Individual should have strong leadership skills.
Individual needs to be extremely organized, detail oriented and thorough with the ability to track and document.
Individual should have familiarity with Serenic Navigator accounting software.
Individual should have excellent Excel skills and proficient in all MS Office Suite software.
Individual should have the ability to work independently and as a team member.
Individual needs to have strong analytical ability and spreadsheet development skills in order to make sound business decisions.
Individual should have excellent internal & external customer service skills and needs to be able to work across the organization with all levels of personnel.
