Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Department Administrator for The Dance Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts. This position reports directly to the Chair of the Dance Department and position provides oversight and administration of the daily financial and business operations, as well as personnel actions of the department.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Prepares and analyze fiscal data and reports, and will provide timely updates to both the Chair and the Dean's Office.
Oversees the department's annual budget, related operational revenues and expenses, and in this capacity, advises the Chair on best practices for the management and distribution of financial allocations.
Ensures accurate and timely processing of all related personnel actions – including searches, employee appointments and terminations, as well as all faculty reappointment and tenure actions.
Provides oversight and facilitation of purchasing, business and facilities matters.
Resolves a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the Dance departmental goals and with a thorough understanding of administration/office management in accordance with management principles, applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures.
Oversees three to four Dance Department staff and provide regular performance reviews, coaching and guidance.
Ensures that University, Mason Gross and Dance Department policies, procedures, and protocols are communicated to Dance Department faculty, staff and students.
Works independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results.
Performs professional work that requires specialized to general knowledge of one or more fields of management/administration and a solid understanding, use and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, terminology, and applied bases in area of specialization.
Provides other administrative support as requested.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the field.
Minimum of two years of budget and account management experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.

Must be trustworthy and able to effectively represent the university to external individuals and groups.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with software for developing spreadsheets, budget forecasts, balance statements, database software, and other accounting reports.
This position requires knowledge of general accounting principles and policies, with an understanding of nonprofit financial accounting.
Preference will be given for candidates with an advanced degree, particularly in business administration.
Five years of budget and account management experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
Preference given to candidates that demonstrate strong supervisory and leadership skills.
