Northwestern University is seeking a temporary Full-time Communications Strategist for the Evanston campus.
Temporary Job Description:
The temporary Communications Strategist position manages the enterprise and internal communications editorial calendar, including capturing editorial planning meeting notes and tracking story production from kickoff to publication to performance measurement.
Write “News” stories that cover broad, strategic updates about the organization; assist with coordination of freelance writer/designer contracts as needed
Publish stories/content on appropriate CMS platforms (e.g. Sitecore, Sharepoint, Constant Contact) on owned Kellogg School channels (e.g. Dept’s About page, News & Events)
Coordinate search engine optimization of content; support story performance measurement of enterprise articles, newsletters and web traffic (e.g. Dept About page, News pages)
Coordinate the amplification of enterprise stories on School social media platforms by liaising with the digital/social team
Support development of enterprise projects, including web, video/audio and print pieces as required
ASSIST WITH INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS WORK:
Write, edit and publish (internal) stories and announcements for the staff Intranet that cover broad business education, organizational performance and people priorities
Support production/distribution of internal newsletters for faculty, staff and students
Support regular metrics reporting on Intranet site/internal content performance
ASSIST WITH EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS WORK:
Collaborate with the external communications team to support a variety of media relations activities, including, but not limited to, pitching media, preparing spokesperson preparation materials, and research relevant to external communications priorities
A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired
Strong written and presentation communication skills, including AP style writing/editing experience
Strong organizational and project management skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, coordinate multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
Communicates effectively and professionally one-to-one and in small groups
Self-starter who takes initiative and proposes new ideas and solutions
Strong collaborator, willing to work across the team and school to produce high-quality content that strengthens the Kellogg School's reputation
3-6 years of experience in a writing, marketing, communications or public relations role
Experience working within Google Analytics for content performance measurement and reporting
Familiarity with scaled nonprofit and higher education or academic environments
Works efficiently in a fast-paced organization
MS Office suite 2013 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Experience working in web platforms (e.g. Sitecore) as well as email platforms (e.g. Constant Contact)
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop)
Exceptional fluency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint)
Familiarity with project management/collaboration tools (e.g. Basecamp, Smartsheet, Clarizen)
