Under general supervision, this position ensures the creation and dissemination of accurate, timely, and compelling information about the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts (BCLA) for internal and external audiences. The position is responsible for digital and print communications that support the College mission and strategic plan in relation to the University's overall strategic plan and communications. The primary goal is to raise the internal and external profile of BCLA, its initiatives and its faculty and students' accomplishments, via multiple platforms of communication.
Typically a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Communication, English, Journalism, Public Relations, or Marketing, but a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any humanities or social science field is acceptable if accompanied by relevant professional experience as described below. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of technology, regulation, and policy changes.
This position will exhibit professional attitude and conduct that support the mission, vision and values of both BCLA and University. S/he will consistently communicate and employ interpersonal actions that model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable and ethical conduct. Finally, s/he will demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service.
Minimum 3 years of experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or related professional field with experience implementing sound principles, practices, and strategies of communications that incorporate multiple platforms and channels to promote an organization or service.
Exemplary written and oral communication skills evidenced by portfolio of writing projects and digital design/web management work. Confident in researching, writing, and editing; preparing text and visual information for digital and print publication; updating websites using a content management system; writing for and managing social media channels.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills for developing and implementing communications plans, usually in collaboration with others, that produce communications that advance College strategic initiatives.
Professionalism in interpersonal and group communication skills to facilitate collaboration with a wide range of individuals and groups from culturally diverse publics across multiple offices and units; ability to work effectively with internal and external constituencies and technical professionals.
Proven ability to work independently to accomplish tasks and projects, providing regular updates to supervisor and others; to coordinate requests and manage deadlines on multiple projects and competing priorities; and to resolve challenging issues with grace.
Orientation and proactive approach to continual upgrading of knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep current with digital and print communications and topical issues in higher education.
Demonstrated computer competencies in design, management, and other industry-standard communications software, including but not limited to: Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, WordPress, enterprise content management systems, and website quality assurance and analytics software.
Enthusiasm for the University's mission, its Jesuit and Marymount heritage, and the value of a liberal arts education. Prior experience in education or nonprofit settings a plus.
