The Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association (VNLA) is looking for an Executive Director to lead the association to its next level of growth in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VNLA strives to unify, strengthen and promote the green industry while advancing industry best practices and principles that will keep Virginia green and growing.
Job Responsibilities The ideal candidate for this position is one who has experience in association management with a preferred knowledge of the nursery and landscape industry. This position oversees the day-to-day financial and administrative activities for this state-wide association, as well as, orchestrates and participates in the networking activities that drive membership growth, legislative initiatives, educational programs and Board of Director endeavors. The VNLA Executive Director works with the Board of Directors and Committee Chairs to orchestrate member engagement events around the State, as well as, attends industry events to maximize VNLA’s exposure opportunities and enhance the organization’s profile and influence.
Characteristics and Traits A successful Executive Director for VNLA is self-motivated, possessing a strong desire to serve the green industry, as well as, a strong interest and focus on continual professional development for self and associational members. This position requires someone who can assess, analyze and articulate the vision and value of the association to stakeholders, strategic partners and the community at large. The ideal candidate also has a proven track record of exceptional written and verbal communication and is self-confident in public-speaking arenas as well as individual interpersonal experiences.
The Director of VNLA must be comfortable with moderate travel activities attending events, meeting with members and other stakeholders and creating a continued presence of VNLA throughout Virginia.
Professional Experience & Qualifications This position is not only for the candidate who has experience in association management, but it is also for someone who has a successful track record in networking activities - effectively connecting organizations and people with positive outcomes. Additional qualifications include:
•Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree
•A minimum of 5 years non-profit experience with Associations
•A minimum of 5 years’ experience with the nursery and/or landscaping industry (preferred)
•Proficiency with technology tools and social media methods
•Working knowledge of legislative and political processes and environments
