The APICS Director of Development creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising which may include but is not limited to major gifts, corporate donations, event sponsorship, and in-kind resources. Fundraising is designed to support the APICS academic program, research initiatives, and the STEM outreach program.
This position is preferably located in Chicago, but may require travel up to 50% of the time to meet with potential donors.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to create a fundraising/development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization’s academic, research and STEM outreach initiatives.
Implement the fundraising/development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles.
Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved, meeting increasingly aggressive benchmarks established by the CEO and CFO.
Develop policies and procedures to ensure the fund raising programs reflect ethical practices that comply with all applicable federal and local laws.
Collaborate with the Meetings and Events team to plan and execute special fundraising events as specified in the development plan to generate funds for the organization.
Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities.
Oversee the administration of a mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of corporate, community and individual prospect’s information.
Engage volunteers for special fund development projects using established volunteer management practices.
Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities
Collaborate with the Marketing Team to develop a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization
Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S. or B.A.) from an accredited university with an emphasis in business management.
Three to five (3-5) years of experience with demonstrated success working in a fundraising role.
A certificate in Fundraising Management
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of fundraising management
Knowledge of federal and state legislation affecting charities
Proficiency in the use of computer, including but not limited to the following: Fund raising software; Microsoft Office suite; Database creation; Internet
Must understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure own behavior and the behavior of others are consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to set priorities and juggle multiple deadlines.
