OVERVIEW: Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R), an educational nonprofit organization based in Boston and dedicated to advancing the highest ethical standards in the conduct of biomedical, social science, and behavioral research, seeks a full-time Membership Assistant. Founded in 1974, PRIM&R accomplishes its mission through education, membership services, professional certification, public policy initiatives, and community building, and has a diverse membership of 4000+ individuals representing all 50 states and 40 countries. PRIM&R is conveniently located in Boston's historic Back Bay, within walking distance to several transportation options, the Public Garden, and a variety of restaurants. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Assistant Director for Membership and IT Operations, the Membership Assistant plays a key role in supporting PRIM&R’s membership initiatives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coordinating monthly membership mailings
Processing member sign-ups and renewals
Supporting member benefits including awards, Mentoring and Regional Connections Programs, and volunteer initiatives
Offering administrative support to the membership team and volunteer bodies
Serving as front-line member of customer service and registration team, responding to attendee inquiries and processing conference registrations, substitutions, and transfers
Attending conferences and assisting with membership-related conference activities; meeting and greeting attendees, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have excellent communication and customer service skills (oral/written; in person and over the phone); communicate effectively with diverse constituencies across the organization and externally; flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively; 1-2 years office and/or customer service experience; strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to multi-task, in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment; working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required, proficiency preferred; experience with non-profits and databases helpful but not required. Note: Ability to travel overnight several times a year required.
